Homeschool Program

3:30 - 5 p.m.
Parents and children ages 5 - 10 who pre-register may come for an interactive tour and art activities relating to Much Ado about Portraits. Registration fee is $15 per family, for up to 2 children, $5 for each additional child. To register, contact Lisa Stevens at 352.392.9826 x2112 orlstevens@harn.ufl.edu.

Morning | Self-portraits: Faces & Figures ($140, Harn member $120)
Young artists will use a variety of media including drawing, painting and sculptural materials to create self-portraits.

Afternoon | The Art of Nature ($140, Harn member $120)
Using observation, from landscapes to leaves, artists will create works of art based on the natural world. Participants will use drawing, printmaking, pastels and plein-air painting to capture their inspiration.

Morning | Horsing Around with Art ($140, Harn member $120)
Gallop along with us as we take a closer look at the horses in the museum. Campers will make horse sculptures, charcoal drawings, paintings and prints.

Afternoon | FUN-tastic Figures in Art ($140, Harn member $120)
Take a closer look at the figure paintings in the museum and make drawings, paintings, larger than life puppets and a photomontage starring the summer camp artist.

Family Day: Picturing Dad
June 15, 2013

1 - 4 p.m.
In honor of Father’s Day, families will tour the recently opened Much Ado About Portraits exhibition and then make a portrait of their father or an influential person in their life. A donation of $5 per family or $2 per child is requested if participating in the art activities.

Morning | Dynamite Digital Photography ($140, Harn member $120)
Snap away with us as we examine the photographs in themuseum. Make stop motion animation, a photomontage, sunprints and hand-colored photography.

Afternoon | Animation Creation ($140, Harn member $120)
Bring your favorite drawings to life as you learn about the art of animation. Artists will create flipbooks, phenakistoscopes, cut-paper stop motion and drawn stop motion.

Travel through the Asian art collection and create a landscape scroll painting, gyotaku print, paper pulp painting, dragon painting and origami sculpture.

Afternoon | Build It, Shape It, Sculpt It ($140, Harn member $120)
Take a closer look at the sculptures in the museum and explore various ways to create sculptural and functional art with wood, found objects, wire and clay.

Morning | Printmaking: Color, Line & Shape ($140, Harn member $120)
Young artists will experiment with color printing in a variety of printmaking techniques including block print, collagraph and monoprint.

Afternoon | Color Theory: Mixing Colors & Why it Matters to Artists ($140, Harn member $120)
Learn how to make secondary and tertiary colors, shades and tints, what color combinations “pop” and how all these tricks help artists to achieve their goals.

Morning | African Art: Yesterday and Today ($140, Harn member $120)
Students will compare and contrast traditional and contemporary works of African art in the Harn collection. Drawing inspiration from traditional African masks, textiles and sculpture, artists will create works of their own.

Afternoon | Harn Museum: Where Art & Geometry Meet! ($140, Harn member $120)
Explore shape, pattern, symmetry, two dimensions and more! Students will search for geometry in the works of art in and around the Harn and use what they learn to create works of art using geometric concepts.

How does music inspire art? Campers will explore how music and art relate to each other through sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking and collage.

Afternoon | Recyclable and Reusable Art ($140, Harn member $120)
Campers will use a variety of recyclable materials to create reusable art. From crayon castles to mixed media mosaics, this camp will boost your creative skills and ignite your imagination!
