REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Summer Camp for Kids - Week 1 (June 9-13)

Mornings, 9 a.m. – noon | $150 per child (Become a Harn member and pay $130)
Afternoons, 1 – 4 p.m. | $150 per child (Become a Harn member and pay $130)
Full Day, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $290 per child (Become a Harn member and pay $250)

Introduce your child to the world of art this summer at the Harn Museum of Art! Students, in very small classes with certified art instructors, will enjoy gallery explorations and fun art-making projects using a variety of materials. These camps provide many opportunities to be creative! An adult supervisedbrown bag lunch hour will be provided for full day participants.

Morning: “Color: Mixin’ it Up!”
Get messy and have fun while learning how to mix and make a full rainbow of colors! Learn the tricks of the trade: How artists use color to show emotion, color choices that pop and how colors can fool your eyes. (Katie McDonald, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Horsing Around with Art”
Gallop along with us as we take a closer look at the horses in art at the museum and make a horse sculpture, charcoal drawings, prints and a canvas painting. (Nicole Reno, Instructor)

Morning: “Fun with Photography”
Snap away with us as we examine photographs and make stopmotion animation, photomontages, sun prints, hand coloredphotography and “glow in the dark” photos. (Nicole Reno, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Animation Creation”
Bring your favorite drawings to life as you learn about the art of animation. Artists will create flipbooks, comic strip collage books, cut paper stop motion and drawn stop motion animation. (Nicole Reno, Instructor)

Morning: “Exploring the Art of Asia”
Learn about new cultures and traditions as we create unique art inspired by the Asian collection. Campers will enjoy creating ink wash paintings, landscape printmaking, a variety of origami, and much, much more. (Jennifer Grikstas, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Recyclable and Reusable Art”
Campers will use a variety of recyclable and reusable materials to create art. From animal sculptures to mixed media paintings, this camp will boost your creative skills and ignite your imagination. (Jennifer Grikstas, Instructor)

Morning: “Creative Sculpture Teen Challenge”
What can be built with an assortment of materials in 4mornings? In this session, tweens will be creatively challenged and inspired by contemporary sculpture on view inside and outside the Harn, like the new Big Max sculpture. Campers will create sculptures of wood, metal, wire, clay and assorted recycled materials. Virtually “meet” contemporary artists and see how they solve creative challenges. (Jennifer Grikstas, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Recyclable and Reusable Art”
Tween campers will be using an altered book to journal and sketch their way through a journey to self-expression.Campers will explore landscapes--real and imagined, draw and paint self-portraits--real and abstract and use black and white photography and collage to find their own creative style. (Linda Zidonik, Instructor)

Morning: “Animals in Art around the World”
Campers will look at how artists depict animals in their art from Herzog to the African and Asian collections to our own Butterfield horse “Rory.” We will explore different art mediums: drawing, collage, painting and printmaking to bring animals to life. (Linda Zidonik, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Pattern and Color in the Abstract”
Campers will be using pattern and color to make Stella sculptures, Britto drawings and Warhol prints. Students will then create an abstract series of their own using one of these three mediums. (Linda Zidonik, Instructor)

Morning: “Swampy Art Adventures”
Chomp into your creativity as we explore works of art in themuseum that celebrate the marvels of the swamp. Artists willcreate a variety of swamp inspired lessons that will include fish prints, canvas painting, photography, sun prints and an alligator sculpture. (Nicole Reno, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Textiles as Art”
Weave together inspiration from the museum’s collection withyour creativity to make a felt monster sculpture, table runner with printed designs, yarn weaving, fabric collage with embroidered illustrations and a fabric bowl. (Nicole Reno, Instructor)

Morning: “Drawing: Fundamental to Experimental”
Campers will explore traditional drawing media including pencil, pen, charcoal and ink while learning a variety of basic and experimental drawing techniques. Projects will include contour line drawing, gesture drawing, cartooning and more. (Katie McDonald, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Art of the Book”
Have you ever wondered how paper is made? Come explore theancient art of book making! We will make our own papers, learn several book-binding techniques, create a flip book and even turn an old book into a newly altered piece. (Katie McDonald, Instructor)

Young artists will “meet” a new artist each day from Avery to Monet to Zuniga! After learning more about the styles and ideas of these masters, campers will create their own works. (Katie McDonald, Instructor)

Afternoon: “Printmaking: Color, Line and Shape”
Campers will experiment with color printing in a variety of printmaking techniques including block print, collagraph, monoprint and more. (Katie McDonald, Instructor)

Participants will take a family-friendly tour of the art on view in Life is a Highway: Prints of Japan’s Tokaido Road. A donation of $5 per family or $2 per child is requested if you wish to participate in the art activity.
