Photo Power: Photojournalism as Conscience - Dead or Alive?
Can photography still shape history and influence perception; can it prompt collective action? Does compassion fatigue exist; is there such a thing as “collective humanity”? Carol McCusker, Curator of Photography will explore whether or not photographs can still change minds and hearts. In reviewing socially-conscious photographers -- from Jacob Riis to W. Eugene Smith and Larry Burrows to Gordon Parks (featured in I, Too, Am America), to today’s photojournalists -- troubling questions and hopeful observations persist. Audience response is welcomed.
