VISIT: Bishop Study Center Harn Museum of Art

Bishop Study Center
The Bishop Study Center contains a number of multimedia and hands-on resources for extended study in art and culture. Resources continue to expand in conjunction with the museum's changing exhibitions. The knowledgeable and friendly staff is available to answer your questions or suggest various resources to enhance your museum experience.

One of the highlights of the Bishop Study Center is the hands-on collection. Children and adults are encouraged to explore the touchable objects related to our exhibitions. Visitors are welcome to read a book by the window, watch a video about a favorite artist, review various art books or research art on the Internet. The museum offers CD-ROMs and videos structured for visitors of all ages as well as how-to/instructional books. To learn more about previous and current exhibitions at the Harn, several catalogs are available. Information about the museum's collections is at your fingertips along with books about numerous types of art. To view the Bishop Study Center holdings online visit The University of Florida Libraries Catalog.

Educators are welcome to explore the various resources available to plan classroom curriculum or to incorporate art into it. The Bishop Study Center has a library of media for educators to check out items such as books, CD-ROMs, videos and more.

Making A Case for Florida Art, an outreach curriculum resource consisting of a suitcase of Florida-themed materials, is available for loan through the Bishop Study Center’s Educator Borrowing Program.  The suitcase is an extension of the program currently offered in the Alachua County schools and consists of posters, CDs, DVDs, hands-on art materials and reproductions of two of the Harn’s Florida-themed paintings. The materials are written for fourth-grade students, but they can be adapted to any grade level.  The materials may be checked out for a period of three weeks.

The Bishop Study Center's programs are funded in part by generous educational endowment commitments from Michael A. Singer, the S.F.I. Fund and an anonymous donor.
