The Collection
The Harn will be open until 9 pm on this evening. At 7 pm Dr. Craig Smith from the UF SA+AH (School of Art and Art History) and Dr. Ben Wise from the UF History Department will present “The Collection”—a lecture with Smith and Wise in conjunction with their display of 60 matchbook photographs in the In Our Time: 54th SA+AH Faculty Art Exhibition. Smith and Wise are engaged actively in research investigating social stigma and marginalized communities in the United States and abroad. Their “Collection” will portray the literature, lyrics and legislation used to create and identify particular communities and their associated forms of stigma. Smith and Wise’s art features matchbooks found in the Larry Blagg Gay Club Matchbook Collection stored in Cornell University’s Rare Books and Manuscripts Archive.
Museum Nights: Celebrating Indigenous People’s Week
Due to Hurricane Milton, this Museum Nights, originally scheduled for October 10, was moved a week later to Thursday, October 17.
“Indigeneity” is word expressing the many ways in which an indigenous person’s identity links them to specific knowledge. It also expresses how everyone can learn from the rich array of traditions, histories and practices of native peoples. In celebration of Indigenous People’s Week, the Harn invites the community to reflect on Indigenous history by listening to story times, experiencing Native American dancing and art making activities. Add to your Thursday Night with the Harn’s Art After Dark | Museum Nights!
