Why were you interested in the Development Communications internship?

I have loved art for as long as I can remember, not only appreciating it but creating it as well. As a child, whenever I was bored, all I needed was a piece of paper and a pencil to feel inspired and happy. When I decided to come to Gainesville for college, I was eager to find a museum in the new town I had just moved to.

I first became involved with the Harn by joining the MUSE (Museum University Student Educator) program and coordinating Museum Nights. Through that experience, I developed a deeper appreciation for the role museums play in building community and witnessed the genuine joy these events brought people. When I learned about the Development Communications internship, I immediately knew it was a perfect fit. The role uniquely blends my interest in business and institutional operations with communications, enabling me to help build meaningful relationships between the Harn, its audiences, and its generous donors.

What excites you about interning at the Harn?

I am excited to gain insight into how the Harn collaborates with donors to support its mission and programming, and to learn how different departments within the museum collaborate behind the scenes.

How important was it for you to receive the Mary M. James Student Inspiration stipend?

Receiving the Mary M. James Student Inspiration Fund stipend was extremely important to me. The stipend makes it possible for me to dedicate my time and energy to this internship while continuing to balance my academic responsibilities.

Beyond the financial support, the stipend also represents an investment in students and affirms that opportunities in cultural institutions should be accessible.

Favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is Lake Alice. I love sitting on the grass to draw and paint during golden hour. Whether I am alone or with friends, the space always brings me the same sense of peace I felt the first time I visited. It is also where I saw an alligator in Gainesville for the first time, making it even more special!

Do you collect anything?

I have a growing collection of belts, which might sound random, but I love how they let me add personality to an outfit. It encourages me to notice craftsmanship and detail in everyday objects and is a reminder that creativity can exist in the small, functional parts of daily life. My newest addition is a zebra print belt I received for Christmas.

If you had 25 hours in a day, what would you do with the extra hour?

I would use it to talk and connect with my loved ones. It is easy to get caught up in day-to-day responsibilities and routines, and that extra time would be a reminder to slow down and show appreciation for the people who matter most in my life.
